My family got their first video cassette recorder (VCR) in 1980. That represented almost instant home access to a vast film library. It also marked the start of my love affair with watching movies, especially at home. That affair continues today and very much fuels this Small Screen Reviews blog.

My earliest favourite films were The Blues Brothers, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner. It’s James Brown’s turn as the all-singing and all-dancing reverend in The Blues Brothers that inspired me to blog under Cleophus James. It’s Cleophus that calls out to Jake (John Belushi) “do you see the light?”

In terms of this SSR site, the plan is to write a set of up-to-date and independent movie reviews – all of which have been watched by me for the first time on my small home TV screen. Put simply, I watch the latest films and give my immediate and honest assessment of each of them direct from my sofa. And I should be reviewing 1 – 2 films each week.
